Protect Our Paychecks is a coalition of employees and businesses who have deep concerns about changing Colorado’s laws to make it easier for unions to take money from our paychecks without our consent. The laws in place today respect our choice to join and pay dues into a union or not, providing a necessary balance unique to Colorado.

Now, some special interests are demanding that elected officials tip the scales in their favor. There is a bill at the state legislature, Senate Bill 5, that would alter the law to make it easier for unions to take away worker choice and automatically deduct dues from your paycheck, whether you support joining a union or not.

THE DETAILS:

  • Today, if a majority of employees support joining a union, a union is formed.
  • After that, a second vote with a higher threshold is held that would give unions the right to deduct dues from our paychecks, whether you voted for it or not.
  • At least 75% of the workers who show up to vote or the majority of all employees eligible to vote (whichever is greater) must approve before dues can be required of non-union members.
  • Senate Bill 5 would get rid of the second vote requirement that currently protects worker choice.
